Cabo San Lucas. The name conjures images of chiseled rock formations, exciting nightlife, luxury accommodations, great restaurants, and, of course, of high fives after a day of deep-sea fishing.
There are very few places on earth where angling for the catch is as fun as it is in Cabo San Lucas. Here, you’ll find almost every variety of deep blue denizens, the hopping ones, the rambunctious ones, and the ones with bills. Add the pleasant weather and shots of neat Mexican tequila by the deck side, and you get the best deep sea sport fishing experience in the world, unmatched by any.
But while the city, in general, is quite blessed with cruising fins, there are some spots in Cabo that are more catch-worthy than the others.
San Jamie Bank
San Jamie Bank is located on the pacific side off Cabo. It is 3,500 feet deep and has three seamounts, springing up to a height of 150 feet from the surface. These seamounts serve as the natural habitat for the life below.
This area is great for fishing Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Blue Marlin and Bonita.
Golden Gate Bank
Golden Gate Bank forms part of the Tinaje Trough, and like San Jamie Bank, is located on the pacific side off Cabo.
The waters of Golden Gate Bank are warm, which makes this area ideal for different species of fish, including Dorado, Yellowfin Tuna, Skipjack Tuna, Black Sea Bass, Blue Marlin and Striped Marlin.
Finger Bank
Finger Bank is located approximately 50 miles away from Cabo San Lucas marina and is known as one of the best places to fish Striped Marlin on the pacific side of Baja.
According to one estimate, anglers release up to 60 striped marlins during one day of fishing at Finger Bank.
Gordo Banks
Finally, we have Gordo Banks.
It is located 22 miles northeast of Cabo San Lucas marina, and is not only one of the best deep sea fishing spots in Cabo San Lucas, but also in all of Baja California Sur.
Thousands of seasoned anglers set out on the waters of Gordo Banks each year in the search for tunas and snappers.
April to November is the best time to visit the area.
