Out of the many places in the world that attract professional, sport and hobby-fishing enthusiasts Angler Guides magazine states that Cabo San Lucas is one of them. For those looking into hobby or sport fishing in Mexico, this destination is truly spectacular!
Where to Start?
You have all skill levels of enthusiasts making visits to bask in the variety of fish-able species available to catch in the region.
That being said, many enthusiasts and newcomers visiting for the first time are unaware of which the best spots to fish in Cabo San Lucas are!
Splitting it in Two
To make things simple, we’re going to split our locations into two categories. These are locations on the pacific end of Los Cabos and those facing the Sea of Cortez.
Sea of Cortez
The Sea of Cortez is home to a number of gorgeous fishing locations. These include:
Gordo Banks
This location is roughly twenty two miles off Los Cabos. This offshore fishing location is an angling hole divided by two riverbanks. These banks are brilliant for fishing pretty much all year round!
Vinorama Canyon
This location is a little further out as compared to the Gordo Banks. Though the distance between this location and Los Cabos is a fair bit, the fishing options make it worth it. We’re talking Yellow Tail, Dorado, Tuna and reef fishing to name a few.
Santa Maria Canyon
If you want to get a feel of the local angling vibe and snag a few for yourself as well, there’s no place better than Santa Maria Canyon. Besides the popular Dorado as well as Tuna, this area boasts a population of catch-worthy billfish.
Pacific End
The Pacific facing side of the region is also not to be missed. Some of the best locations here include:
San Jamie
The San Jamie Bank is the nearest bank to the incredible Tinaje Trough. This is an estimated 3,500 feet in depth. This area as a result is home to a multitude of beautiful species. Some of these include:
- Tuna
- Skipjack
- Bonita
- Yellowfin Tuna
- Blue Marlin
Golden Gate
The Golden Gate bank is hands down one of the most ideal places to fish in Los Cabos. The currants here are always warm and attract Dorado among other species of fish. These include:
- Black Seabass
- Skipjack
- Yellowfin Tuna
- Striped Marlin
- Blue Marlin
Lighthouse
The Cabo Falso Lighthouse was once mistaken as part of Baja. That being said, it has also provided sports fisherman with some handsome trophy catches in the past few years!
Other Spots
There are a number of other brilliant spots to fish at on both ends of the region. These include:
- Finger Bank
- 45 Spot
- La Fortuna Bank
- San Luis Bank
- San Jose Canyon
Apart from the aforementioned, there are many other places you could visit. If you make it to the ones we’ve described, you can always check in with your guide or ask around for more hot fishing spots in Cabo San Lucas!
