Dorado fishing tips

Dorado tackle

Since Dorado is known to be quite heavy, you need to be particular about the reel you use. A reel that isn’t strong enough won’t be useful in catching Dorado. A Shimano Trinidad 16N is an example of a reel that can be used when fishing Dorado. The Daiwa Sealine 20 and Shimano Calcutta 400 are also great alternatives.

Sometimes, it might take a long cast and live bait, like an anchovy to catch the fish. When doing so, you require skill since there’s little to no weight.

Fishing Hacks Everyone Needs to Know

Catching fish on a sport fishing trip is not everyone’s cup of tea and requires practice and precision to be able to be successful. You need a perfect beat and tackle boxes like fishermen who have their own secret techniques, which increases the chances of catching the fish.

Here are a few fishing hacks for you.

1.    Differentiate Between Your Rods

Using colored tape and wrap it around your rod to differentiate them from each other. It’ll help you remember how heavy each rod is and you can decide to use them on different occasions for various fish.

2.    Increase The Success Rate Of The Bait

Using fish and insects from the location as bait can help you increase your success rate as it is from the same ecosystem, which would attract the fish. You can also dip your bed into liver oil, which would bring more fish to the surface.

3.    Use Different Baits

If you realize that your bait is not working you can switch it up and try your luck again. Some fish can be caught from different baits so you must be prepared. The fish are located in different ranges so your bait must reach that, which would require you do keep changing them.

4.    Protect Your Equipment

Fishing in saltwater can ruin your equipment and replacing your fishing gear can be expensive. So, to maintain its quality, you can soak your saltwater reels in water after coming back from fishing to prevent any rust or corrosion. You can add silicon packets to your box to prevent any moisture or any other element from deteriorating your equipment.

5.    Things To Keep In The Tackle Box

You must pack your tacklebox carefully with all the essentials. Keep a pair of nail clippers to save space that is important as it helps you cut the line.

6.    Observe Your Environment

If you’re unable to catch any fish, you can observe the water or other surroundings. There might be a hindrance that is not allowing any fish to come to the surface. If you see the dolphins breaching the water or seagulls circling ahead the fish are most likely to be over there.

7.    Techniques To Remove The Foul Odor

When you go fishing you bring back a different odor with you which doesn’t go away. Fishermen have used alternative methods like washing hands with salted water and running their hands across stainless steel to remove the smell. During the trip keep following SOPs to protect yourself as well.

A Complete Guide About Charter Fishing for Beginners

Taking a vacation once in a while can be a great stress reliever. Most people opt for charter fishing to enjoy an evening in the sea and have delectable fish afterward. It’s a budget-friendly trip with your family and can turn out as a great experience.

If you’re going on a charter fishing trip for the first time, here is a complete guide for you to understand the basics of the trip.

The Best Time to Go on A Charter Fishing Trip

It’s crucial to find the right time to catch the fish for a successful fishing trip. The time of the day plays an important role as fish prefer warm water. However, if it’s extremely hot, the fish go deeper underwater, where it’s cooler than the surface. The fish are more active during springtime and mostly during dusk time fish search for food, which is the best time to catch them.

Communicate with Your Guide

Book your sportfishing trip in advance and contact your guide confirming all the details and clearing out any queries that you have. This way, you can communicate your objective for the trip and any fishing techniques that you want to learn. You can also specify this fish species you want to catch and any special requirements that you have. Your guide will prepare everything according to your liking and will be able to fulfill your expectations.

Guidelines to Be On Board

There are certain policies that anglers have to follow while on board. You won’t be allowed to smoke, drink or have food brought with you. You can also inquire about fish cleaning and cooking on board to have a meal.

Location and Timing

Having the right location of your charger yacht and reaching on time is quite important. You can ask for directions from your trip organizer and leave early to reach on time, even if you don’t face any unforeseen problems. If you’re late, your trip might get ruined as you might not be able to catch in a fish and your trip would be cut short.

Preparing for The Trip

Packing for a charter fishing trip when you’re going for the first time can be overwhelming. It’s important to keep some basic items with you like a first aid kit, some extra clothes, sunglasses, sunscreen and any medication that you need. Wearing the right material of the clothing is also important so, if it’s winter, wear more layers of clothes and if it’s summer, wear light-weight clothes which are full-sleeved to avoid sunburn.

What Makes A Great Sportsfishing Trip?

An angler showing off his catch.

Sportfishing allows you to interact with others and enjoy some adventurous outdoor time with your friends. You also get to catch your food, enjoy a magnificent view of the sea, and catch a glimpse of those gorgeous fish and dolphins.

Here’s what makes a great trip.

The Right Gear

Before everything, you need to know where exactly you’re going, which species you’re going for, and what do you expect from the water. These parameters help you gather the right gear for your fishing trip. The sooner you do your research, the better it is—especially if you need to purchase some new equipment.

As a passionate angler, you might already have bait, reel, and line. However, deep-sea fishing requires more sophisticated equipment, including spears, gaffs, tackle boxes, sinkers, floats, traps, and waders. Baits are often particular and vary across different species. You also need something to store up your catches. It will also help if you stock up on some navigational equipment and GPS systems to help you find the rich spots.

The weather matters!

A smart angler always knows what they’re getting into. Don’t forget to check the weather forecasts before heading to the Baja waters. You can delay your trip a few days if the forecast mentions rough winds—you won’t be able to catch any fish anyway.

If the temperature is expected to drop a few degrees, you’ll know what kind of jackets to carry. If it’s expected to get hotter, it’ll help to keep sunscreen. Weather changes in the sea are very unpredictable. What starts as a pleasant morning can quickly turn into a rainy evening. It always helps to prepare for the unexpected. Pack an umbrella, a pair of boots, and a hat just in case.

Chartering a luxury yacht means a seasoned chef will dish out some fantastic food for you while you watch the sunset by the gallery, and there will be lots of exciting water toys at your disposal. You also get to go off the beaten path and discover new fishing spots and unchartered waters. The captain will know where to find the best catch and steer the yacht to help you make the most out of your money.

Luxury yacht rentals also have ample comfortable space for you and your family to enjoy some time together. Riding a luxury yacht is also an unmatched status symbol. You might even be able to catch the glorious sunset view for your Instagram feed!

Here’s Why You Should Be Heading to Cabo San Lucas, NOW!

A tourist fishing in the deep waters of Cabo San Lucas.

What sets Cabo San Lucas apart from most other tourist destinations is that it always keeps going! The city never takes a break—whether it’s a storm, hurricane, or a pandemic. The wonder city has gotten accustomed to the new normal and continues to welcome tourists, with all the safety guidelines in place.

Here’s why Cabo San Lucas should be your next tourist destination.

Luxurious Resorts

The good news is that most of Cabo San Lucas’s resorts are adjacent to the easily swimmable beaches. When the sun starts rising, you can head out of the resort and snorkel those beautiful and vibrant coral reefs. To oomph up the experience, you can always opt for an oceanfront villa that continuously brings in the breeze from the Sea of Cortez. If you’ve got the budget and are traveling with a huge group of friends, you don’t need to settle down for a tiny suite far away from the coast.

The magnificent 24,000 square feet Brisa Del Mar Villa can accommodate as many as 12 of you. After a long day of fishing in the waters of Baja, you can spend some family time in the private media rooms, custom bar, outdoor terrace, and outdoor pool table. You can also get some private beach access to enjoy some alone time with your significant other. Cabo San Lucas is also home to many stunning sky villas that offer an enormous ocean view from the rooftop and some good rooftop pool time.

Plenty of ‘safe’ activities

The coronavirus pandemic is the number one concern for tourists traveling to any place in the world—let alone Cabo San Lucas. Fortunately, there are quite a lot of activities that you can engage in, keeping the physical distancing guidelines in place. If you wish to avoid the crowd, just rent a charter and savor some time alone on the waves. To make your trip even more socially distant, book a diving trip, and discover the underwater world, far away from the rest of the crowd.

If your interests lie on the hiking side, you can always hit the trails and head to Mt. Solmar’s early morning. The trek is a bit rough, but the most challenging climb gives you the best view, doesn’t it? Once you reach the summit, you’ll be in for a magnificent view of the mountains, sky, and sea. Other socially distant activities include standup paddleboarding, enjoying a good seafood tour, practicing some golf swing, and swimming in a private infinity pool across the Sea of Cortez’s waters.

The fishing season is on!

Every year, Cabo San Lucas sees a massive influx of tourists coming in to enjoy a year-end deep sea fishing experience. In winter, the sierra mackerel dominates inshore fishing while the yellowtail can be found deeper into the sea. There are plenty of yacht rental services that comply with the physical distancing guidelines, serve scrumptious meals on-board, and have a high-tech fleet of vessels.

The first thing we do is get all of our gear ready the day before like helium balloon, juming fish, binoculars, live bait and our secret lures.

Then in the morning of the charter, before we get out of the marina we look at our water temperatures and chlorophyll so that we can make a decision base science.

Once we look at out apps for wind, water temperature and chlorophyll we get the numbers on our gps so that we can head that way.

Once we get close to the target area we start looking out of our binoculars to find birds and dolphins.

Once we find them we get to them as soon as possible and depending on how they are behaving we ether get the kite, parachute, lures or bait out into the water to attract the tunas.

If we go by the dolphins a few time and we don’t see anything in our sonar, we move on and start looking into our binoculars again to find another big school of dolphins that can guide us the the yellowfin tunas.
