Helpful Deep-Sea Fishing Tips for Beginners

Deep-sea fishing is every angler’s dream come true! Having the wide-open ocean as your playing field makes you feel like you have control over the waves. It’s thrilling, exciting, and also very challenging!

Here are some tips if you’re new to it:

Dress the part

Irrespective of the season, you will get wet on the boat during your combat with the prey. Even if you’re riding a luxury yacht, we don’t recommend wearing expensive leather loafers and slacks. Skip out any expensive jewelry and gadgets. If you’ve got an expensive camera, wrap it in a. waterproof casing to avoid damage. Think of something that works well will water or can be wiped clean with a towel. A bathing suit could be a great idea too!

If you’re planning on staying on the yacht for the entire day, you might want to bring a few extra layers. When the sun goes down and gets windy, you could use some sweatpants and a hooded sweatshirt.

You don’t want any of that blinding sunlight from the water to hurt your eyes. Make sure you carry some sunglasses and high-SPF sunscreen.

Drink lots of water

Even if you’re riding the waves in winter, the day would be hotter. This is because the sea surface tends to reflect the rays and heat up the atmosphere. As a result, your body can lose out on the fluids much faster. Staying hydrated is the key!

Being dehydrated also makes the motion sickness kick in faster. You don’t want to cut your trip short because you’re feeling nauseous. Keep refilling your body now and then to feel better. Try and avoid alcohol—it’ll affect your hand-eye coordination when you’re fishing.

Select the best charter company

Nothing guarantees a memorable deep-sea fishing experience like being on a luxurious yacht does. A good company will be aware of the local sea laws, the best season, fishing regulations, and the best catch. You won’t need to go through the hassle of getting fish permits. Going after big yellowfin tunas in Cabo San Lucas

The first thing we do is get all of our gear ready the day before like helium balloon, juming fish, binoculars, live bait and our secret lures.

Then in the morning of the charter, before we get out of the marina we look at our water temperatures and chlorophyll so that we can make a decision base science.

Once we look at out apps for wind, water temperature and chlorophyll we get the numbers on our gps so that we can head that way.

Once we get close to the target area we start looking out of our binoculars to find birds and dolphins.

Once we find them we get to them as soon as possible and depending on how they are behaving we ether get the kite, parachute, lures or bait out into the water to attract the tunas.

If we go by the dolphins a few time and we don’t see anything in our sonar, we move on and start looking into our binoculars again to find another big school of dolphins that can guide us the the yellowfin tunas.

The game is all about persistence and patience.

If you let your guide do his job and enjoy the ride you will have the experience of your life time and finish your day with the biggest catch ever.
