The high season to fish for groupers or Cabrillas in Cabo San Lucas is from April to July. We catch them by using downriggers with live bait and we usually go down from 50 to 200 feet.

Groupers usually bite right at the bottom of the ocean. So, we like trolling our live bait 5ft off from the bottom, and yes we do have to find a structure on our Garmin sonar before we send our live bait to the bottom.

5 Fishing Mistakes That Beginner’s Make

Fishing can be a perfect way to unwind and get away from the stresses of daily life. However, it can be frustrating at times, especially when you are inexperienced with it.

There is no such thing as a perfect angler in fishing. Making mistakes is an unavoidable part of the fishing experience, particularly for beginners.  Making mistakes can actually help you learn about your shortcomings and overcome them.

Here are five of the most common beginner fishing mistakes to help you avoid them, or at the very least, recognize them so you can be cautious.

The wrong spot:

An angler may become so used to their favorite fishing spot that they refuse to leave it, even though there are no fish there any longer. It is possible to get restricted in that specific spot and stay in your particular comfort zone. Not bothering to look around and staying in a similar location limits your growth. Now and then, try going somewhere different. Expand your horizons by taking on new challenges.

Changing lures too immediately:

Fishing is a test of patience. Although adjusting your lure would most likely be beneficial during the day, do not switch too quickly. If you wait long enough, you won’t go home empty handed. It is also an excellent idea to retie your bait after a while of use. Over time, the knot will become weak, giving you a sound bite.

The faulty hook:

If you try to save money by using old hooks, you will be disappointed. One of the most basic mistakes is using the wrong or old hook, as it dramatically reduces efficiency. A sharp hook increases the chances of catching something. It will comfortably fit into the fish’s mouth while still fitting your lure or bait properly. Fish will bite if you use good lures, but you will lose the fish and your lure if you use a dull hook.

Inappropriate Tackle:

Many anglers fail to fish various species of varying sizes because they do not use the appropriate tackle and setup.

Worn-out fishing line:

Another common mistake made by anglers is using worn-out fishing lines. The majority of anglers lose their fish simply by breaking the fishing line. Expect a lower yield or nothing at all if you are using a worn-out fishing line, regardless of how costly and durable your equipment is. The result would be discouraging. As a consequence, never use the rusted fishing lines.

Is It Safe To Book A Fishing Trip To Cabo?

a fisherman holding a Dorado while a boy smiles into the camera.

The COVID paranoia is real! Even after a year of staying indoors, wearing masks, quitting socialization, and isolating, a single cough or sneeze can throw us off. Even once the pandemic ends, we’ll need years to recover from the collective trauma, the effects of which get worse each passing day. It’s as important to stay home and stay safe as it is to get out and allow yourself to unwind.

As the hustle bustle of metropolitan cities has died down, people are seeking distractions in adventure sports and safe vacation ideas. Sailing into the Cabo sea, away from the shore, and fishing in the midst of a vast blue ocean is the perfect idea of a relaxing holiday. But vacationers are skeptical of safety procedures that will be followed, and we get it. That’s why we’re elaborating on all the safety measures that we’ll take to make your fishing trip perfectly safe and fun.

COVID Situation in Mexico

Right at the end of 2020, Mexico reported a decline in coronavirus cases. Deputy Health Minister Hugo López-Gatell reported a 13% decline in the COVID statistics in the last few weeks of December 2020 but warned that the trend could be short-lived and isn’t definitive.

However, in February 2021, Mexico was pleased to loosen the COVID-19 alert level as the rate of infections and hospitalization went down. The state is gradually reopening public places such as churches, restaurants, and malls, with strict SOPs and surveillance.

Safety Certifications

Before you begin to think we’re a self-proclaimed “safe fishing tour company” that’s luring you to a high-risk fishing destination, we’re not. Here are the state-approved certifications that have declared Mexico safe for travel.

The federal government of Mexico awarded the Punto Limpio certification to Los Cabos. This ensures the safety of vacationers who want to travel to Mexico to enjoy our fishing tours. This testifies that Mexico adheres to strict hygiene standards and maintains safety protocols between suppliers, hotels, and local authorities. The World Tourism & Travel Council (WTTC) has recognized Los Cabos as a safe destination by stamping it with “Safe Travels”.

Safety Protocol System

Los Cabos has established a thorough health and safety system that’s called Los Cabos with Care: A Safer Way to Get Away. As the name suggest, this system monitors the safety protocols that are being followed and allows travelers a chance to enjoy a holiday without risking their safety.

The system is under the supervision of local health authorities. It’s also affiliated with Intertek Cristal that further stresses hygienic traveling, physical distancing, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) in high-risk situations.

All of this combined proposes fishing trips in Cabo San Lucas as a promising getaway to release some tension induced by the novel virus; you can enjoy surf fishing spots and sportfishing in Cabo San Lucas. Want to fish a marlin for dinner? Call us right away to book our fishing charters.
