Deep Sea Fish You Can Catch On a Charter

If you’re looking for a one-stop holiday with some sand, sun and a whole lot of sea, the Baja California peninsula is the place to mark on your map. Nothing beats the holiday experience and watersport adventures that you can enjoy in the resort city of Cabo San Lucas.

However, if you want to up your fishing game and try your hand at deep sea fishing, dip your bait in the Baja waters. The ocean in this region teems with all kinds of deep sea fish varieties that are prized rewards for the best catchers. Nothing quite matches the thrill of offshore fishing.

If you’re ready to go deep and get lucky, you might just catch one of these big fish.

Blue, Black and Striped Marlin

Marlin species

If your fishing net lands on one of the Marlin species, you might need an extra pair of hands to carry the catch. Striped Marlin weight somewhere around 200 pounds but that’s not even close to the highest limit they can hit! The Blue and Black Marlins can grow as heavy as a 1000 pounds.

It’s not just the weight that stands in your way of catching them. These are among the most acrobatic deep sea fish. They can dodge baits very well so don’t try to outsmart them. The key is to beat them in their own game. The colors purple, green, yellow, black and white are their biggest weakness. Make sure to use troll feathers and plastic lures in these shades to attract a Marlin.

Wahoo

Imagine flooring your car on an empty road and shooting through like a bullet—that’s how fast Wahoos are! They can hit up to 70 mph, so you need to be as fast as flash to match up to their speed.

However, if you get lucky, you’re in for quite a dinner treat. Wahoos can make your table fare fit for a king, with the generosity of serving in one catch. Although, to catch them, you’ll need the sharpest and sturdiest of wires because their jaws can slice through any wire.

Now is the time when the odds will be in your favor for catching Wahoos because the weather is warm. They prefer higher temperatures in water and can be spotted near the surface during summer months.

Yellowfin Tuna

The time between July and October is ideal for fishing Tunas. They’re usually not as big as other deep sea species but some bulky ones can weigh over 200 pounds.

You can stack up your odds by finding a good bunch of troll feathers and free-line baits to attract the Yellowfin Tuna. You can also use jigs instead of live bait, drop it in deep and reel fast but steady!

They usually show up on seamounts so the best among us will keep an eye out for such opportunities. Needless to say, finding a Tuna in your fishnet is an occasion to celebrate.
