Things to Keep With You On a Fishing Trip

If you have never gone fishing before, then it may seem like a pretty simple activity: rod, bait, line and game. However, it is much more complex.

When planning out a fishing excursion, packing properly is the best thing you can do to ensure that you have a memorable experience.

Here are some things that you must never forget when going for a fishing trip:

Fishing Rod

A fishing rod is obviously the first thing to keep, but do you know which one is right for you?

You will find many models in the market and it can become somewhat overwhelming to pick the right one. Remember that the most expensive fishing rod isnโ€™t the best one for you, you should go with the one that you feel comfortable with.

Rods come in several classes ranging from 0 to 15, 0 being the lightest and 15 being the heaviest. For beginners, it is better to go with a 6-weight and 8 foot length rod, as is the easiest one to handle.

Fly Fishing Rod

If you are up for a bit of fun, then you must also try fly fishing.

However, fly fishing requires a different rod than what is used in a conventional fishing. A fly fishing rod is thinner and lighter than a regular rod and is made from graphite and fiberglass for high endurance.

Bait

Choosing the right bait can be a bit tricky. While many people claim that red bait effectively attracts all kind of fish, it is not always true. There are some fish that are not able to see color. So the bait you are choosing depends entirely on the type of the fish you are looking for.

Therefore, it is imperative that you know which type fish are found in the area and research about those fish accordingly.

If you go with ineffective bait, your fishing experience will be nothing but frustrating.

Clothing

Fishing is a sport and just like any other sport, it requires a certain type of clothing for good performance. Go with polyester shirts to keep you dry and clean throughout the journey and a wide-brimmed hat to protect yourself against the sun.

When it comes to the footwear, you can go with wading boots, as they will keep you nice and dry.

Accessories

Donโ€™t forget to take sunscreen and shades to avoid getting sunburned. You will have to apply sunscreen several times on a fishing excursion, so you may also need baby wipes to wipe your palms to keep your grip firm.

Keep binoculars with you if you are going out for a deep sea fishing trip, as they will help you spot hot spots for fishing.
