Top Fishing Spots in Cabo San Lucas

Cabo San Lucas is a place where fishing enthusiasts from all over the world converge to experience the most exciting fishing adventures. It has so much to offer to beginners as well as pro anglers with some of the most exotic species of fish—found in numbers that only a few other destinations can rival.

If you haven’t been to Cabo San Lucas before, then you are probably aren’t aware of the fishing spots that are a must-visit. To help you out, we have compiled a list of all hot spots on the side of the Baja Peninsula that locals usually keep secret.  

Here are some fishing spots to include in your itinerary:

San Jamie Bank

Starting out from the Pacific Side, the first place to visit is the San Jamie Bank. This is the closest bank to the Tinaje trough, and has three incredible seamounts. The path between Golden Gate Banks and San Jamie has an underwater current, which makes it a good place to catch fish.

You can expect to find Blue Marlin, Bonita, Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna and Skipjack.San Jamie Bank

Golden Gate Bank

From the San Jamie Bank, the Tinaje trough runs 15 miles north to the Golden Gate Bank. This is probably the best place to fish in Cabo San Lucas, which is why you cannot afford to miss it.

The warm waters of the Golden Gate Bank make it attractive for all sorts of fish, including Black Seabass, Skipjack, Dorado, Blue Marlin and Yellowfin. If you are visiting in early spring or winter, you could also hook the iconic striped marlin.

Finger Bank

If you are up for a little sea expedition, then consider visiting the Finger bank, which is about 50 miles off the coast of Todos Santos.

This is where you can find droves of striped marlin in the winter season. If you are an experienced angler, you can also expect to catch more than 50 Billfish in a single day.

Cabo Falso Lighthouse

Originally considered to be a part of Baja, Cabo Falso Lighthouse is landmark of Cabo San Lucas. It is an easily accessible spot from the coast of Cabo San Lucas marina and is a place where you can find a great deal of Dorado fish.

Gordo Bank

Coming over to the Sea of Cortez Side, one of the finest fishing spot you can find is the Gordo Bank. It is located about 22 miles northeast from the Cabo San Lucas marina and is off the coast from San Jose Del Cabo.  The exact fishing spot is separated by two river banks, inner and outer Gordo Bank.

The most productive time to visit this spot is between April and November. However, it provides a decent amount of fish during the winter as well, as the banks are protected by the Sierra Madre mountains.

Santa Maria Canyon

If you are a Tuna, Billfish and Dorado lover, then there is no better place for than the Santa Maria Canyon. This is located about 9 miles of the Gordo Bank and is conveniently accessible from Cabo San Lucas.

This is one of the most favourite spots for the local anglers.
